All graduate students at the American University of Florida are required to complete a Graduate-Level Thesis, typically ranging from 60 to 80 pages, to fulfill their degree requirements. Students will collaborate closely with a faculty member specializing in their field to shape a research focus that aligns with their area of specialization and personal interests. The thesis proposal—covering the research context, problem, hypotheses, objectives, methods, data collection, narrative outline, and preliminary bibliography—must receive approval from the directing faculty member, a second field specialist (also a graduate faculty member), and the Dean of the Graduate School.
The ultimate goal is to produce a well-researched, analytical contribution that reflects a deep concentration within the student’s field, demonstrating advanced graduate-level study. The thesis should exhibit the student’s extensive knowledge, critical thinking, mastery of research methods, and professional writing skills. The final work should be of such quality that it can be presented to a wider audience, thereby supporting the student’s professional advancement after graduation.
